Richmond Affordable
Solar Housing Project

The Richmond Solar Affordable Housing Project will install residential solar electric systems for low-income Richmond homeowners, including families, seniors and persons with disabilities. All Installation services will be provided free of charge to the homeowners through installation teams of Youth Works  construction trainees and other community members.

  • Expand and encourage the use of Solar energy throughout the city.
  • Help low-income homeowners reduce their bills.
  • Provide Richmond residents with professional skills on solar technology.

THE PARTNERS

 

Solar Richmond, is a local grassroots coalition of over 85 Richmond community members committed to promoting solar power in the city of Richmond to create a cleaner environment and develop job

opportunities. Solar Richmond will conduct community outreach and client education

 

RichmondWorks, the City of Richmond One-Stop Career center, will integrates the program into their RichmondBuild Pre-Apprentice CarpentersProgram, which provides academic instruction and construction training to local residence. Program participants will receive classroom training on solar technology and installation, hands on experience with the installation teams, and connections with solar contractors.

 

Grid Alternatives plans the solar installations, leads the installation teams, manages the paper work, and trains the RichmondBuild trainees. GRID is a local nonprofit that operates Solar Affordable Housing Programs throughout San Francisco Bay Area.

 

Solar Living Institute, promotes sustainable living through inspriational environmental education and provides a three day hands on installation training at RichmondBuild.
